350 MC Engine that needs spec'n

Hi

I bought I 350 out of a 1985 Monte Carlo with a turbo 350 tranny.

It has a set of hedman headers, Edelbrock intake and carb, and a few other accessories.

I was wondering what would be the best head/cam combo I could get without having to go all out replacing pistons and such. I really want that lobey sound.

Also what type of posi gears should I get for the rear end?

I couldent find too much about head/cam combos on here for a 350 sbc motor.

THanks,
Chris

First off what are you going to put it in, and what are your goals?
I believe that any cam over 270 will give you the rumpity rump
but vehicle weight / stall of converter will dictate the cam size.
3.73:1 is a good streetable rear end ratio, but if you just want it for the track 4.56:1 or 5.10:1 will work. but with a THM 350 final drive of 1:1 you wont put it on the highway for long.
It is all relative.

and are you serious about no Cam/head info on 350 SBCs?

what you want is chevy's L-79 cam for the 327/350.it sounds fantastic and has great power and tork.dur.@.050 221/221,lift .447/447.add 1.6 rockers to that and you get an additional 2 or 3 degree's dur. and the lift change's to 477/477.crane makes it ,jegs sells it.that'll perk up your 350.

First off make sure it`s a 350, as the biggest engine avalible for the carlo in 85 was a 305 from the factory, if it has a 350 it was installed by elsewise.
I`d recommend comp cams 268H cam, it has 218 duration @ .050, a lopey idle, and .454 lift, it`ll give you good throttle response and torque as well as mid range power. as for heads I`d get a set of RHS vortec heads, just bought a set for a friend of mine, there heavy casted and flow slightly better than stock vortec castings, for the money there a good deal. However, if the engine is a 305, I wouldn`t waste my time.

Yep 3970010 common 350 block. Most likely 010 under the T cover indicating higher nickel.
I'd also pull the valve covers and check the head numbers. If the 7-8 digit code ends in 993,441,487,487X or hell evan 882.
I'd keep those heads and put in a Comp EX268.That should be a decent midrange cam for a mild low compression 350 stick her in w/ a 3.42-3.73 rear and it should be set.Should be good for 325HP at the crank.I say EX series cause the faster ramps will save ya some cylinder pressure in that low compression beast and save ya some lowend.
I wouldn't go puttin heads on a used motor.

Yup I just took the tranny and all the accessories off. The last 3 letters of the heads are 882.

Can someone give me a link to the exact cam/lifter kit I would need to bolt right up to the motor. The comp Comp 268 sounds like what I will go with. Would I need to get anything else like rockers to go with the cam? Or will I just be able to put the cam in with the factory internals fine with no problems.
