i was in on this kind of swap but it was 30 years ago and the details are fuzzy (the 70's were a blur) anyway the dizzy (distributer) isn't the real problem, as i recall the heads hit the firewall and the steering box arm is completely in the way as are the front vertical body mounts. we changed the steering gear, trimmed the body mounts and skillfully massaged the firewall with a sledge hammer till we had clearance, mounting the stock short waterpump equipped 327 as far forward as the radiator allowed.

The six cylinder is alot longer than the SBC, so if you use the centerline of the six for the mounts for the V8, you should be OK. Better to mark the firewall dimensions on the frame before you pull the body, though, it'll save you alot of headaches later on downd the road. Glad I'm not the only one who can't quite remember all of the 70s. ;-)
