re: 350 Ponocho

The only one I know of that could help you out with a blower setup is "Pontiac Dude" Ken Keefer at Ken's Speed and Machine in Florida. He has been running a blower setup on his personnal T/A for several years, a 9 second (1/4 mile) untubbed 76 T/A street car. I'll have to pull up his website address so I can post it on here.

re: 350 Ponocho

Yeah, I found his link as I browsed pontiac posts on the site and went to it. Thank you. I have another thread that's not getting many looks, but since this one has all your attention, I'll ask it here, as it is somewhat motor related. If I wanted to put a 700R4 behind the 350P, is there a way, or kit, that will adapt my bellhousing for a Chevy bolt pattern so that the two can work together?

Thanks Guys,
Dave

re: 350 Ponocho

To mate the 700R4 to a Pontiac an adapter kit is needed as the 700R4 is a Chevy only transmission. The knowledge base on this site is an excellent place to start looking for the adapter and neccesary parts to make that work.

re: 350 Ponocho

Thank you. I thought so, but on my other post in the tranny section the guy who posted said it cannot be done. Maybe he meant as is, with no modification..

Thanks Again,
Dave

Found conversion plate

So I googled transmission adaptor and found that TCI offers a bolt on conversion plate for a chevy tranny to a BOP motor. The Tranny is a 700r4 out of a 91 Suburban, what more would be needed? Also, isn't the powerglide a chevy bolt pattern already? So is the adaptor plate needed or am I off here??

re: 350 Ponocho

That's not really a Powerlide, but a Super Turbine 300, same as used by Buick and Olds for a 2-speed automatic.

If you want an overdrive auto that will bolt to a Pontiac engine, look at the Turbo 200-4R. It's shorter than a 700R4, and a good many of them, maybe most of them, have either the BOP bolt pattern, or both Chevy and BOP patterns. I don't know how the ST-300's length compares to a Turbo-350, but the 200-4R and the short-tail T-350 generally found in small- and medium-sized cars are the same length.

Bore Size

I have found that the only difference between the 350p and 400p as far as cylinders and journal size, is the cylinder bore. Would it be possible to take the 350 (bore 3.8750") to a bore of 4.1200" (that of a 400p)? Is there enough meat on the block to allow for this without chancing hotspots or the need to sleeve?

About the Blower

I found a site with blower manifolds for the Poncho. Has anybody heard of these guys?? What do you think? Price seems a little high, but these manifolds are hard to come by. The link is below.

Blower for Pontiac (about half way down page)

Thanks

Dave

Powerglide/Super Turbine 300

JIMFULCO, I'm glad to see someone else knows that "Powerglide" in a BOP really is'nt a Powerglide, but a Super Turbine 300 2 speed automatic. However, some Pontiac cars DID come with a "true" Powerglide, but with the BOP engine mating pattern. They are EXTREMELY rare however. I believe they were used in low powered cars, and were aircooled like the early Chevy II and Vega Powerglides.

just come pick this damn 400 up from me, hell its free, and its a standard bore(4.120) 1973 400 (XX code) xx codes were 350 and 400's but this has a nice "400" casted into it!

its just a bare block, no caps, but it does come with used cam bearings!

your 350 caps, crank, rods, etc... will fit, just get it align bored!

WHY WASTE YOUR TIME WITH A 350 WHEN YOU CAN GET A FREE 400?

alright

Okay! PM me your contact info and I'll make it down there this weekend if that's possible for you. I realized that my math was way off when I was trying to figure that (had the decimal place off by one place) . I appriciate you helping me out. Just felt guilty taking it from you. If you could give me your # and address, I'll give you a call tomorrow if it isn't too late in the day. I've been working in Redding all week and it's made for 8 hour travel round trip each day, thus making for very early mornings and late nights.

Thanks Again

Dave

Both Ken "Ace" Brewer http://www.pacificperformanceracing.com/about-us.html and Andy Mitchell http://www.pacificperformanceracing.com/about-us.html can make you a 350/383 that rips.

re: 350 Ponocho

When you go pick up that block check to see what year it is. You can check as the date will be embossed back where the distributor sets in. Besides by the time you go through the expense of the machine work on a bare 400 you would still come out cheaper in the long run of building the 350/383 that I mentioned in on of my first posts, and as Creech told you. Mid year 75 and newer 400 blocks are not the best canidates for a performance build as the main webbing is thinner and more lilely to crack under severe usage.
