350 Power glide

Hey guys Chap here. Many of you know about our 1974 Chevy Nova we restored.

Anyways we dropped a create 350 in it and it run likes a champ. My father sent the transmision out to be rebuilt. We got it back and dropped it back in and things. We are having a problem with it now. When we start it up and shift it into drive it basicly stays in neautral. You try to go in reverse and its like its not engaging but if you shut the car off in park and start it back up it will kick into gear if you try again.

Im confussed what it could be. Like its not caching or engaging. Only when it wants to

I've come across this problem a few times in the past--Try starting it in neutral instead of park, then shift into drive, or start in park, shift to neutral for a moment, then into drive. If it goes into gear faster, the slip rings on the input shaft are damaged or broken, not letting the converter charge with fluid properly. Being as its a fresh rebuild on the trans. the builder may have made a mistake? Another thing that may cause the problem would be too much end play between the front pump gears and housing, not letting the pump function properly. Take some pressure tests to see what you are dealing with. And of course, you may have a faulty converter.

Considering gizmo's worst case scenario, very basically, fluid level is correct, yes?

I just started it up let it warm up stuck it in park and checked it. It was to the full mark like I desdcribed.

The ol man said he had everything replaced in the transmision. It runs fine and shifts fine it just wont go into drive sometimes and you ahve to shut it up for throw it in l1 to get it to catch then put it back in drive.
