350 problems Dead Cylinder!

Recently rebuilt 350, ran very well for 300 miles then started missing badly, checked compression #2 was dead no compression. I readjusted valves on #2 but had to back them off to the point that they make noise to get compression, now I have compression but the miss is still there! The ignition system is fine I have fire on all eight cylinders and the compression on all is 150#

What else do I look for?

Bill

Is the pushrod the right length? Maybe you wore out a cam lobe.

sounds like a valve or valve seat problem to me. Loosen the rockers so the valves wont open and do a leak down test. if you have a mechanical problem it will be obvious. Air will come out of the carb or exhaust or crankcase........Ed

My guess would be that you burned the valve /seat while running it woth the valves set too tight.
