See if you can get specs on the original engine and build it to the original specifications. Unless you just want to build from scratch.
I'm building a 350 4 bolt to put in an '82 pick-up. It's bored .030, balanced, vortec heads, edlebrock performer rpm intake, edlebrock 600 cfm carb with electric choke, hedman headers, 214/224 dur. 443/465 lift @ .050 cam, flat top pistons, heads are port matched to exhaust and intake (not ported or polished), hopefully will be in the range of 340 HP. This will be a daily driver and use pump gas. The cam is similar to a '66 - '67 vette. A cam any bigger will reduce or eliminate most vacuum so if you want vacuum for brakes auto trans A/C and so on I wouldn't go bigger.
Maybe thats enough for you to chew on for a while. Good luck
