350 sbc issues

Put new dist in 350 ...had to establish tdc ...etc ..car doesn't fire up immediately then when it finally started it was missing really bad ...please help ...I'm sure it's the timing because car not starting right away like its barely missing the fire point ....turned vac advance and still nothing ...what am I missing or what can I try to fix this

you might just need to turn the distrubtor to time it right.

if that dont work do this:

pull the number 1 spark plug to establish TDC on the compression stroke then stab the ditstributor with number 1 facing the front of the engine to make sure its in correctly. Then make sure your firing order is correct. On the distrubtor it goes clockwise with number 1 facing the front of the engine.
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and the pisitions on the block from the front of the engine are driver side 1-3-5-7 and 2-4-6-8 for the passenger side.

then you know for sure its not spark related based on the distributor.

its probably 180 degrees out.take your number 1 plug out, take off the dizzy cap. and have a friend etc just tap the engine over till the number 1 piston comes up. hold your finger over the plug hole. then just look to see where all the timing marks are.... the damper should be at tdc and the rotor should be somewhere near the Number post on the cap.
