350 TBI gremlins

I finished installing the Camaro subframe in my '57 1/2 ton. While I had the motor out, I changed the cam to one that is TBI compatible (Comp Cams 252XFI). New lifters were installed and the cam was proerly broke in. After the break-in run, I had repeated back-fires out the throttle bodies while under acceleration. I checked the firing order and have a new distributor, cap, and rotor installed. I did discover a vaccuum leak on the top plate of the mainfold (Crossfire Injection with a 1227747 computer), which I resealed.

I checked the valve lash to makesure that none of the valves are out of adjustment and had it running (rough but there) yesterday. Today I went to start it up. It ran for a few seconds and died, after the engine died, the injectors continued to run, flooding the driver's side throttle body with fuel. The passenger side was also running, but not to that degree. This is the first time it had had this issue. The engine was cleared and the problem was repeated. I am using a Painless TBI harness with the Painless CFI adapter.

The motor was running with this system prior to all the front end work. I realized today that I did not disconnect/remove the computer before I did all the welding on the frame and chassis, although the battery was disconnected. Is it possible that the computer fried due to the welding? It seems like the computer is the issue at hand, but there is no "check engine" light hooked up to pull codes from.

Any thoughts, (other than ditch the CFI)?
