350 Tranny problems

I have recently purchased a street rod with a 85 Camero V6 in it. It also has a 350 Automatic transmission with Lokar shifter in it with a Mustang II rear end. Let me state here that I KNOW NOTHING about automatic transmissions. When I put the car into reverse it will eventually start moving the car. There is no clunk or noise, it just acts as if it is in neutral instead if reverse. After maybe 10 to 30 seconds it will slowly start moving the car back wards. Once it is "engaged" it moves as it should. The other problem with the transmission is that in Drive between 45 and 60 changes from 2nd to Drive about every 1 to 2 seconds. Above 60 it is OK but below 60 I have to keep it in 2nd. I have checked the fluid while hot and it is OK and clean. The Lokar shifter came to me with the set screw out of the knob. On Lokars instructions it says "Do not remove screw" Can someone tell me why? Let me explain that I am capable of working on cars but automatics I am like Sgt. Schultzand "I know nothing"
Thanks for any help anyone may be able to give me.
Kmac

It sounds like the direct clutches are going away.
Probably due for a rebuild.

Yep, my 350 went out completely shortly after it was doing what yours is. REBUILD! If you let it go, it'll be gone completely very soon. Trying to find a place to park without reverse isn't any fun LOL!

Sorry, can't help ya on the shifter.
