350 trouble

My turbo 350 just lost power on Firday travelling to work. Reverse works fine, but no forward gears. checked the oil level, was fine. The oil however smelled burned. I have a chevy stroker 383 in a chevy Ferenza. is the engine too strong for the transmision. the trans. was done about 300km ago.
