Post 350 turbo-no reverse sometimes-whats up?

I have a fresh 350 turbo in my street/strip car.On 3 seperate occassions i have no reverse.Trans works perfect the rest of the time.Shifts firm and never slips-!st,@nd and 3rd gear. When it doesnt want to go into reverse i leave it a few days and it is o.k. again.I cant seem to get it to repeat this problem under any certain circumstances.Hot or cold-it makes no difference. It has a shift kit with the the oil transfer plate which if i understand correctly this is for 3 gear which also share it clutch with reverse-yet 3rd is working great.Do i have a sticking valve in the valve body-and if so which one?thanks!

Cool

I have seen this happen on our tranny dyno....

Main line pressure will drop to zero when I move the shifter to reverse. It acts like a giant air bubble has formed inside the pump. If you rev the engine while in reverse, the pressure jumps up and the tranny bangs into gear.

I have tried various fixes. the only continous fix I have found is the side clearance on the pump gears was near .004

When I closed up the clearance to .002 I never had the problem again.

I'm not sure if this applies, but I know for a fact that if you have a broken motor mount you can have the same problem. My problem was where I had no forward gear at all, but could go in reverse. I changed out the tranny and still had the problem and went insane. Come to find out that the drivers side motor mount was busted. I just pressed the brake and reved the motor and the engine hopped a good 2 inches, adverse torque on the turbo 350 causing the plates not to engage.

You could possibly have the same thing only in reverse. It would be the passenger side mount. I would put it in reverse and rev the motor just incase. I know it sounds to simple, but it does occur.

get another valve body and plate sounds like 2-3 shift valve is sticking, enlarge feed hole for reverse that info should come with shift kit or correction kit you buy.
