350 turbo shifter linkage

alright so i got a 79 firebird and i rebilt the transmssion and now im reinstallin it.. well had to buy a new shifter linkage cuz i broke the old one. i put it all tgether but had to run a bolt strait thru shifter on tranny to shifter cable becouse the linkage parts r missing to run to the lock on the steering wheel.. well its accurate at putin in gear besides 1st. p r n d 2 all go into gear but i pull it all the way down and it cant find first i have to manuelly put it in 1st by gettin under the car which is a pain becouse im runnin a manuel valve body.... does nebody kno if the cable its self adjust or if u can adjust the cable how? thanks...
