350 Turbo Trans

I have a 53 Chevy pick-up and I'm looking at a 350 turbo trans for it.I just found out that there were two different 350 transmissions,a short tail and a long tail,a difference of 3".Will a short tail trans work on my truck or should it be a long tail transmission???If I use a short tail transmission do I need a hanger bearing????The motor I'm using is a chevy 350 and the rearend is a 80 camaro 10 bolt posi.

re: 350 Turbo Trans

You can use either trans, as you will need to find, or have a new d-shaft made anyway.

re: 350 Turbo Trans

there are 3 different lengths of t-350 in 2wd .

6 inch , 9 inch and the 12 inch tail hosuing.

the 12 inch is not too common. I'd put a tail measure on the tail housing just to double check

re: 350 Turbo Trans

I have a long tail shaft in my little Nova. The guy that rebuilt it said don't know how it got in my car but theres no reason it should work any different actually he preferred the long tail, less drive shaft = stronger and better balance!
