I've never used any sealer on the pan gasket.

I have had pan gaskets that had taken a set after being folded up in a box. On those, I use weatherstrip cement to glue the gasket to the pan and nothing between the gasket and trans body. When the pan is removed the next time the gasket will come off (at least mostly) w/the pan.

You can use finger tight studs in the corners and maybe a few other places to help hold the gasket in position if you don't want to use cement to hold it in place. Remove the studs after you get enough screws started. Or just use studs, period.

I've never used sealer on trans gaskets. Have had good luck using Vaseline to hold gasket in place until pan bolts are in. Don't over tighten bolts.
