350 turbo vs 400

I am building a 400 small block, and I hope it will make about 550 horses, but I am not sure what trans to use,My Dad said I would be best to go with the 350,and that the 400 is not geared right.I am going to run a 4:10 gear, and I have both types of trans, and my Dad builds them for a living any info will help

Geared wrong ???

A Turbo 350 has a first gear of 2.52
A Turbo 400 has a first gear of 2.48

The 400 Turbo will stand more torque and horsepower stock.........but also eats a little more horsepower than the Turbo 350.....

To me.......the reliability of the Turbo 400 far outweighs the small amount of horsepower lost to parasite drag....

Just me.......

You can easily build a TH350 to withstand whatever your 400 will make. We have a TH350 in a 406" 10.3 second 64 Nova that's been there for three seasons and shows no signs of giving up.

If your Dad builds them, why not ask him?

I did he said he was.I just wonder if there was any new up-grades,but believe he is the best chevy trans. man I know, and he has people from TN bringing him racing transmissions, and he will make them last.I've never had to pull one out he built, and there is a bunch of cars with big block, and nitrous, and haven't tore theres up yet,but I'm sure there is new components out there that he might try.
