350 vortec in 85 chevy shortbed questions

Jus brought a 02 chevy express van 2500!! Im looking to put that motor nd tranny in a 85 chevy shortbed!! Do I hve to do any kind of special mods to make it work? Wat about the wire harness nd things like that?????????

are you sure it has a 5.7L 350 vortec. i would be willing to bet it's a 6.0L 364cid vortec, but either way the trans should be a 4L60E. it will work but will be a pain in the butt, cause the computer and all the wiring will have to go with it. it wont be just a simple swap

not to mention that you will have to update the entire fuel system in you 85 to get enough pressure to use EFI

not that it really matters to the question but the chevy express vehicles did carry the vortec 5.0L and 5.7L until 2002, so it is more than likely that this is a gen I sbc and not a gen III. Also, the trans will be a 4L80E if it is in fact a 5.7L 3/4 ton. If it's the 5.0L, it'll have a 4L60E.

To answer the OP, though, this swap has been done a million times and a simple search will be able to retrieve for you the info you're looking for. It would probably be easiest to swap the FI out for a carb setup and to use a 700r4 transmission. Also, the CSFI system isn't worth the trouble of keeping. Believe me, I deal with it every day.

dump the van, get a 502 BBC and dump in the 85.
