351/400 "b" ????????

I've got a 1977 351 Windsor (that's what my repair book tells me), with 77 000km. On the valve cover it says 351/400 "b", engine displacement - 351ci. What does the 400 "b" represent?

Thanks people.

re: 351/400 "b" ????????

1 more thing. I'm pretty sure it doesn't say 351m/400 "b". It's the m part I'm not sure about, I know it says 400 "b". What is the difference between a 351 Windsor and 351 Modified?

351 W the thermostat comes horizontally straight out of the front of the intake manifold.

351m/400 the thermostat comes straight up out of the "timing cover" which is a cast part of the block.

They are totally different engines.

No, it is not a 351W if it reads 351/400.

It is probably a 351M.

The b stands for ballistically slow.

re: 351/400 "b" ????????

I figured it was a Modified, but I looked the Serieal number up in a repair book and it says it's a windsor, not a modified. Weird. Dont really matter anyways.

And the M and C exhaust port bolts are at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock,,,,,,, not 3 and 9 like the W.

So what is it? I am just curious.
