351C has bad miss at idle

1973 351C 2V motor.......stock cept for points ignition replaced with Pertronix electronic conversion.....the problem is that there is a miss at idle when the engine is cold but when its warmed up its not so aparent......i suspect something with the ignition coil........i tested to see what kind of spark i was getting and when i cranked it, only the first couple of sparks were blue like i heard they were supposed to be then they fade to orange sparks........is that correct and could that be the problem?

Furses, coiled again !!

A 90Kilovolt spark will jump a half inch gap and be blue at the same time. The problem is likely the coil or polarity of the coil; the positive connects to the ignition switch and the amplifier of the ignition module and the negative goes to the dissy. Also check for good earth contact to the chassis from the engine and that the coil is matched to the high energy ignition, it needs to bea low impedance type.

Happy hunting

Rob
