351M and Aussie Heads

Does anybody have any experience with Aussie heads on a 351M? I finally found a pair at a reasonable price. My understanding is I will get about a 10.5:1 CR just by installing these heads. I am also going to re-cam. My question is whether or not the aussie heads are a good idea and can anyone guestimate what type of increase in HP and fuel economy I can expect.

Thanks,

-Steve

What Aussie head are you referring to - factory 2V or the aftermarket 3V or something else??

As I understand it the only advantage to the aussie 2V head is the closed chamber, the ports are really no different than what is on you 351M now. All you would be gaining is the bump in compression ratio. With the compression bump and a recam I could see 60 hp show up, maybe more with headers and aluminum intake.

Looking for big power - 400M with 3V or Iron 4V closed chamber heads and a big cam

Thank you very much! My understanding is that the Aussie heads bolt right on. Can anyone verify that for me?

Thanks again,

-Steve

Physically will bolt on, make sure the rocker bosses are compatable with whatever you use.

My understanding is the Aussie 302, 400, 351M and 351C were all part of the 335 series and the heads are interchangable. Does anyone know if this is true?

THanks,

-Steve

steve, i hate this. i composed a long post last night detailing cleveland engines. when i hit "submit reply" as about 1/4 of the time it just disappeared. i hate wasting time. short cut:
all the 335 series heads will interchange.
forget the M engines, the deck hight is taller. although the boss and aussie heads will bolt on. there is no good intake produced(all fords used 10 bolts) i
as for the heads, the 4V open chambers were a waste. the 2s are all a waste. they all have open chambers, the aussie heads are the best and the 71-72 big port closed chamber heads are the best. i have a pantera and know clevelands.

Thanks for additional info Techron. From a fuel efficiency perspective, will I get much of a gain by adding the aussie heads, a fuel focused cam and edelbrock intake?

heads

hi steven, if your heads are closed chamber, they would be off a 302 ci cleveland, unique to oz, these will give you approx 10.5 to 1 compression and have big valves, have had success with crane cams, go for a cam that will pull from 850 to 4800 rpm, all depending on engine application, greg
