Question 351W five speed transmissions

I have a 351W that I will be installing in my '69 mach 1 and I am wondering which ford five speeds can be used with this motor? What modifications can be made to fit other common five speeds...which is the best?

The T-5 they put in fox-body mustangs will work. Also the aftermarket tremec five speeds and richmonds will work. The 5 speeds in the 4.6 mustangs will not work without a custom bellhousing.

The best would either be a ford racing WC t-5, or a tremec. Both run about $1100 new and will handle 350ft-lbs. That rating is really innacurate though, the stock T-5 is rated for 260ft-lbs but the stock 5.0 made 310ft-lbs. Stock T-5s have put up with 12 second time slips all over, so you can see how inaccurate the 260 rating is.....Just something to think about.

If you could find a used Doug Nash 5 speed it would be a great tranny and give you plenty of strength to build more power later on.
