Post 352 bit the dust

while cruising around sunday my oil pressure gauge needle slammed against the post right next to where it says "zero", but my rpm's were still at 2300, at least for a few more seconds.the knocking and the terrible vibration started there after, so today i purchased a 390. i'm thinking of stroking it with a 428 crank, solid cam, aluminum heads, just all out making it scream without 3500 stall or 4:11 gears with wheelie bars and such. i just want it streetable but fun at the strip too i also love the ticking of a solid cam. any combos of what im looking to do and advice on going about it would be appreciated. thanks.

Well, if you were happy with the 352, you'll love the 390. It is going to be easier and cheaper staying with the FE instead of going with the 460.

I would just go with a quality rebuild, a mild COMP CAMS cam and you have a new aluminum intake don't you? What year is the 390?

i did like the 352 but i also liked the idea of the f.i. 460 but this 390 just fell into my lap at a pretty good deal. im not sure of the year. i believe its newer than 70 it was pulled out of a 78 4 x 4. i was told it was running good when pulled. i did put a mild cam in the 352 just to give it a little bit of a lope but im thinking if i put it in the 390 it would be too close to stock to see a difference. im starting to agree with you though, it doesnt make a whole lot of sense to dump all that money into building the motor for race (especially in this big car). i think i might just do a rebuild with like you suggested. thanks

Don't forget, most anything you put into the 352 can be transferred to the 390. And you don't need to build a full race FE to enjoy the car. Build the 390 for low end torque and you will have a grin from ear to ear. There are so many low buck things you can do to that engine that will let you be competitive on the street.
