355 runnin rich

hey everyone, new to this site. In need of some help though.

motor: 355 chevy, 1990 block 1 piece rear seal. factory forged crank, scat 57 rods. summit .030 flat tops 4 valve reliefs 9.6:l compression. block has been milled .025 for a deck height of exactly 9" though. felpro head gaskets I think a compressed height of .042"? procomp aluminum heads 64cc chambers. 190cc intake runners. some pocket porting and gasket matching too. procomp single plane intake with an edelbrock 750 cfm carb. distributor is an hei with only a recurve kit running the red springs stock module and coil. im running the comp cams mutha thumpr camshaft with comp cams magnum lifters and comp push rods and full roller rockers.

now this should be about a 450 hp recipe for disaster for the stock 4l60 with stock converter and stock gm 10 bolt. still in the break in period and i've now put the third set of r44t spark plugs in it. evertime i pull the plugs out they are blacker than some charcoal. i also have really noticeable dead spot from idle to a quick wot snap. I first thought well..... maybe the 750 edelbrock is way too much so i bought jets that are stock for an 600 cfm edelbrock. but, they're still come out rich. if anything now i thought they would show a lean burn but thats not the case. I'm sure i probably didn't type everthing that you need to know so please respond cause im pulling my hair out on this one... oh yeah, timing is by ear.

I`ve said this before and it`s well worth repeating You cannot time a performance engine by ear! Get the correct timing tab for it and a timing light. Without a light your shooting absolutely blind.
Next, mother thumper cams are all bark and no bite. They`re pretty much a gimmick cam for those who can`t make a standard high performance cam lope and why many can`t them to lope is because they don`t know how to tune it. Now on the too rich issue. Until we know the timing and can get it set right getting the carb right is difficult, however what`s the fuel pressure? Edelcrocks don`t like anything over 5 psi. Check the float height, check the needle and seat for trash. With the vehicle at idle shine a light in the carbs throat. If you see fuel coming out of the boosters then you have one of the issues I mentioned or the timing is so low the carbs throttle plates are off the idle slots forcing it to pull from the main boosters.
