36 chevy front end
Hello folks. I've spent hours searching for my answer without success. Came close with one post, but no cigar. Question. I have a 35-38 Chevy pickup cab (only) and a 35-38? Chevy chassis minus the rear end. It still has the original solid front axle and parallel springs and a couple of parts of the steering. I want to make a rat rod, fenderless, and don't want an IFS. I want to keep the solid front look. Is there newer spindles etc. that I can replace the old ones with? Something I can use disc brakes on? Did they have cross steer set-ups? I intend to use a GM column and power steering box to drive this front end setup (I hope). I am thinking of using a Chevy S-10 rear axle and spring assembly for the rear. The tread is almost perfect for the early chevy front. I am not real sure about the angle of the drive line chuck. Should it be parallel with the ground (level)? Any technical help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

re: 36 chevy front end
Some of those year Chevrolets with the straight axle have 6 lug wheels and I have been told that the 49 to 54 Chevrolet car brake drums and hubs ( with the 5 on 4.75 wheel pattern ) are a direct swap ... not disc like you want ... but at least 5 lugs ...

36 chevy front end
Thank you Deuce for the reply and info. This frame has 5 lug already. It has narrow wire spoke wheels with the center recessed in for the lug nuts etc. The drums have mechanical brakes. I can live with drums, but would like hydraulics, to be sure. I've no idea what year the thing really is. I was told that it was a 35 car frame! It has NO rear axle nor springs. I figure it'll be perfect for my Rat project. I have an extra S-10 Chevy rear assembly that I can use. I do like the look of the front the way it is, solid axle, etc. Regards, oldrodder43.
