I have a 36 rearend and was wondering if you can change it to an open drive shaft.

I don't know if it's possible but the question has to be asked, why would you want to? If you plan to install a modern V8 or really anything with more power than the stock flathead chances are the stock rear wouldn't hold up anyway. Just curious why you want to do this.

36ford rearend

if you ar staying withe the flathead you need a different trans or modify yours for open drive line any no of rear ends can-be installed but all require extensive mods, say you use a48 2 56 pickup you must fab mounts for the leaf springs and weld to the frame you can purchase the mounts. you can stay withe the buggy spring but that is even more work. have done 2 this way and would go the conventional leafs. you also have a wheel problem as believe yourcar has the od ballwheels, then the breaks ar another. good luck

36 rear fix

The reason he was thinking of the 36 rear was for the look of the center do you know of a rear that is open that has the look of the 36 center section.

Yes. If memory serves me correctly; '40-'48 Ford pickup rears had open driveshaft and the components will fit the '36 rear.

You can also get the parts new from Speedway Motors.
