What sort of tail gate supports have you used to get rid of the stock chains?

I use a large Hardware Chain. www.grainger.com They have a lot of things we all could use. And they will do mail orders prepaid too with a Return Policy.

On my 51 Ford, I moved the chains to the inside of the box and made these latches to keep it closed.

On my 76 I built my my own latches and used tailgate cables from a later model (they were available from the help section at the local parts store).

I cut off the chain holders on the outside of the bed and it came out pretty clean.

I figure I'll to the same on my 37 dodge

Poncho, I have a similar setup on my 48F1 for the chains, except I encased mine in flexible plasitic tubing to keep the noise down. My latches are inside the roll of the tail gate. Simple and cheap!

My buddy uses ski rope, he can get matching colors many times, and has a way of braiding them to wrap the ends instead of a knot. It's a very clean looking job and they last forever.
