38 chevy coupe garnish mouldings
 

Hi guys, my 38 coupe was a former street rod and came to me disassembled. The window garnish mouldings are all stainless steel,they all fit nicely except the ones for the doors. when i try to install them there is a gap at the top of the door of about 1/2 inch. could these mouldings be from another year/division of gm? any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.

Sure it's possible, if you can't get them to fit you might call Chevs of the 40's the The World's Most Complete Supplier of 1937-54 Chevrolet Restoration Parts and Street Rod Parts for your Car and Truck, they sell all kinds of old chevy stuff.....or you might try Superior Glass Works - Street Rod Fiberglass & Chassis - Home, the sell f/glass Ford and Chevy bodies including a 37/38. They may sell the garnish mouldings also, they have a parts list on thier web site......good luck

post a picture and I can tell you if they are correct for the coupe. They did not go to the top of the doors as there was upholstery that goes around the perimeter of the mouldings.

Thanks for the info,i'll try to take some detailed pics and post them. Would windlace be the right thing to fill the gap?

Windlace was originally attatched to the door jamb. Thin panel stock same as that used for door panels was used up and around the door above the garnish moulding and covered with upholstery. This was the original way it was done. You may be able to reinvent the wheel though and do it however you like.
