383 2 bolt 1 PC vortec build.

Hi everyone,

Name is steve and I am a returning hot rod owner (previous owner of a 72 Buick GS and a 79' Cj5)

The car 79 Camaro (has a 305 and new vortec heads on it long story I know its bad to do it but the seller told me he had a decent 5.7 in it and he lied on all accounts)

So the 305 Slug is coming out this winter it has the heads (062's vortec heads on it curtesy of a bad head gasket)

I have a 2 bolt block out of a 97' truck 1 pc rear that is clean with all the stock roller equipment.

I want 400 HP and 425 ish torque that is reliable and streetable. Error on the 1500 - 4000 RPM rather than the 6-7K mark

I plan to use this kit -

i have spoken to them and right now they seem the best bang for the buck.

Does anyone know of a better place for the money?

I can run up to a 540 lift cam curtesy of these springs

1. Stock Converter on 3.73s and this power mark ok?
2. 2.02 1.60 valves? or stock 1.94 - 1.5?
3. Studs or bolts bottom and top end?
4. Stock oil pan? Will the 2pc pan work or the truck pan?
5. Can a stock Q-jet supply worthy power to my setup with a deliberate modifcation?
6. Stock HEI or MSD Mallory?
7. Camshaft 65 MPH Rpm 2850 with tires and gears.

So whats going to give me a reliable setup that I can drive and get some performance out of this slug. Also I need to error on the side of affordable and reliable instead of NOX and 4.10 gears. Hence if the HEI is fine I plan to stick with it money is available but needs to be spent in the wisest directions and please no bickering.

A 355 will make 400 horses pretty easily if you build it right. I Would be scared buying a 383 rotating assembly from ebay. I'd buy from jegs or summit just for peace of mind, warranty, and the ability to return it if it doesn't work.
