383 build questions.
I am building a stroker and have some basic questions about it. I have my rotating assembly picked with the gofast eagle kit.
(Kit #13005 Eagle SBC 383 Stroker Rotating Assembly, Cast/Steel EXTERNAL Balance Eagle 3.75 Stroke Crank, Eagle 5.7" Bushed SIR Rods, Keith Black Flat Top Pistons # KB134 .020, .030, .040, .060 pistons, 10.9:1 comp w/64 cc heads, 9.6:1 with 76 cc heads, Speed Pro Moly Rings & Clevite Bearings. If you purchase the balanced kit, it will include a 400 damper & Flexplate. ) I am going to run vortec heads, with 64 cc combustion and max spring lift of .475. I want to upgrade the valves springs and lifters and pushrods. I want to run a nice lift cam with a good lope towards more of a quarter horse. Just need a little imput of cams and springs and others that would be best. This is going to be a track/street motor. |

i would tend to agree with splchn, scat does have a better reputation than eagle, but i must admit i have the same kit, but with the kb135 pistons which are the 18cc dish instead, no one will really be able to answer your qestion without a little more info, car, trans, gears, size tire, more strip than street, with the higher compression you're not likley going to be able to run pump gas, it's possible but highly unlikely, the stock vortec heads will flow you enogh to get into the 400+hp/430+tq range but without extra machine work you wont get much more than that, but vortecs are great street heads, also you need to include which type of cam/lifter you want to use

i have a set of eagle sir i beam rods i have had no problems with them they speced out when i got them and i broke them lose and re torqed and the double checked them no problem i have about 5000 hard miles on them now
no matter the brand it can have a qc problem the machine shop here hates scat because they have a qc problem to what ever you get check them and double check them |
