383 build up

I am planning to purchace a 383 shortblock from Speed-o-motive. The shortblock has KB pistons and is rated about a 9.6:1 compression ratio with the 67cc heads. I am also planning to put world products s/r torquer head with 202 valves. I am stuck what cam specs i should go for. I want no less than 400 horeses put dont want to go overkill. I need it to be streetable because it will be driven daily. so i need relatively good idle, vacum, etc. If anyone has any suggestions or has built one before please help me out. Also what cfm carb should i go with to work with the cam.

David Vizards article "pocket change stroker" suggests the use of a cam with a 108 lobe centerline, as it will benefit the 383`s power band. Isky Cams offers a wide selection of 108 centerline cams. i`d go with a cam with 224 - 228 duration @050, but keep in mind you`ll need a stall converter if your running a automatic with a cam slightly over 224 duration. a 700 to 750cfm carb will suit your combo fine. I wouldn`t worry with 400 horses, on the street i`d want 400 ft lbs of torque, and torque is what the 383 does best, it`s not often you`ll be revving it on the street, and horsepower is upper RPM power, torque is what you feel out of the hole.
