383 piston question

I was in the process of building a 355 with speed-pro hyper. high dome pistons. I believe they are .75 domes around 12.5-1 compression. Of course using 5.7" rods.......Aracer friend of mine told me i ought to put a 400 crank in with my domes for a 383. I was a little nervouse about the domes hitting. He said to use the 400 rods(5.5" rods). This engine is going to turn around 6,500 on a dirt track. I am also a little nervous about running short rods. I know this sounds like a torque monster for the street maybe, but i don't know about 6,500 rpms. Any ideas on this?....what about running my domes with 5.7" rods?.......Do i just go thru the mock build-up with clay and see wear the valves are?(with 5.7")......

You could use those pistons with the 5.565" 400 rods but would have to deck the block to maintain a good quench. I wouldn't spin a stock short rodded 383 to 6500 rpm though.
