383 stroker assembly

Alright guys, all the pieces and parts have arrived and I am ready to start the mock up assembly of my 383 to make the required clearances. I need some advice on the details..

Can somebody please break down the steps of the mock up assembly in detail? I have the basics down, just want to make sure I have all the details down pat too.

the last couple I assembled I had to remove some material from top of the rod bolts to clear the cam, both blocks were lined bored, and one of them the bottom of the block where the oil pan goes needed a little room. I used plumbers putty on the rods and made sure I had at least .060 clearance

so obviously the cam needs to be installed during the mock up to check cam to rod clearance, but can the cam be installed without assembly lube? The lube would throw off my measurements, right? Also, do the bearings need to be lubed up or will they be fine dry since you are only turning the motor over by hand?

Is it alright to use the same bearings that I will be using in the finished product or do I need to find some throw away bearings to use for the mock up and cutting?

I use the same bearings its going to run and I do lube all the bearing surfaces, you will want to thoroughly clean everything, allot!!!

I have built several 383. Something to watch out for Is the cam lobes may clear the rod bolts During your mockup assembly but after degreeing in the cam the lobes may hit.( most commonly on number 5) be sure your cam is degreed where you want during your mockup so you dont get a nasty surprise during final assembly.
