383 stroker gets too hot
I have a t bucket with a 383 stroker built last summer replacing a mostly stock 307 .The 307 always ran warm,200-220,now the 383 is doing the same. The motor has a smaller cam,290 dur.,.450 lift with gm 217 heads .The engine runs smooth as silk with 18 " of vaccum and good response.Built as a STREET ROD, not a race car.I need to add a fan shroud and get rid of the flex fan.I have a 4 core brass radiator that was totally rebuilt 5 years ago.I put in a new 180 degree stant stat and drilled a breather hole.in the stat.My problem is after 5 min of running the engine is climbing over 220 and i shut it off,the radiator erupts,if no cap.At shutdown there is a 2 min whooshing sound from the right head.above i said the engine had good vaccuum and ran well.A little water in the oil.i added the water directly into the intake.Am i still getting an air lock in the right head .A new set of EQ heads are ready to be assembled, i dont trust these 217 heads.CC167CS Lots of bottom to mid range torque.should love aquadrajet.Sqxbox and Oldbogie were talking about a bypass. No heaters on t buckets. Some good threads in the last week about these problems. Thanks for any help or advice you can give.LARRY
