Go to enginefactory.com they make crate 383's. Call them up and ask for one of their sales videos its pretty cool. Not that I am saying to buy one of their crate engines but there is some good info on how they build them. Good luck
According to what rod you use, you may encounter rod-to-camshaft interference you will need to address. You also may have some crank-to-block interference. You will need the mains on the crank turned to fit the 350 block. You will also need the flexplate and damper from the 400.
383's are great engines - you will love them. I attached some typical dyno results so you can see expected power levels and parts required.
a 6in rod 350 is a much more economical engine similar torque higher revs, also from what i understand u can use honda 1.6 litre rods in it they are lighter stronger and cheaper than standard chevy. and less rotating mass is more power more revs.
