I would go with the 170cc runners in a 4x4, it will keep the power band lower and keep the tq down low where it needs to be. Your cam choice looks good as well, should be a tq monster. Good luck on the build

I am not familiar with truck weights, but 6500 sure sounds high

I agree with the previous post, go with the smaller intake port. The 200cc bigger heads will want rpm and it would take forever to 'get there' with a 4x4

Here is the dyno simulation with the smaller heads:

I came up with similar numbers as the above dyno, 370hp@5250 and 430ft/lbs tq@3000. Should make a good combo, I didnt realize the E-Tecs flow as well as they do. Should have some room in the future to cam it a little more if you would want to. That cam you have picked out is prefect for its use though....good luck man

Im not to sure that I would go with much more cam than you have there, is this a stock Vortec ECU your gonna run this thru? I would look into some sort of chip with the combo you have now, as far as more cam I would start where you are at now and see how it runs for you. If you feel the need for more cam in the future, start with a set of 1.6 rockers and then go from there, im sure the E-Tecs wount mind

What year is your pickup? You're looking at more like 5200-5500 lbs. My extended cab long bed 4x4 tips the scales at about 5700.

Wow - that still surprises me. Not saying it wrong at all, just I never imagined they weighed that much.

PS - I have a 2500 too - maybe thats why the gas milage is so low

your right 6426yy thats .480/.488 with stock 1.5 rockers

All the Vortec engines use a hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters from the factory. here is a paste of the 1996 camshaft specs.

96 L31 Camshaft Profile
Intake:
Max Lift .275 X 1.5 = .412
max lift .275 x 1.6 = .440 .028 difference
Exhaust: s
Max Lift .281 X 1.5 = .423
maz lift .281 x 1.6 = ..450 .027 difference
Lobe Separation 111 Deg.

383 vortec 4 bolt main
bassani headers 1 5/8 shorty's
64cc edlbrock e-tec's 170cc runner 1.94/1.50
1.52 compcams roller tip rockers
compcams 258/264 adv. .480/.488 lift 112 lsa
9.8-1 compression forged pistons
6.0 4340 forged rods
3.75 stroke scat cast crank

so .480/.488 with 1.5
and .485/.493 with 1.52
and .508/515 with 1.6 rockers

what would be the numbers be with 1.6 at .508/.515 ?

want as much torque as i can get!

any guesses on hp & tq ?
