383 W/ Holley 4 Barrel

I can't get my 66 Charger 383 with 4 Barrel Holley carb (vacuum secondary) started...

Question: I am looking down the primary barrels of this Holley... The car is NOT running... I am manually pumping the gas linkage with my hand... SHOULD I SEE GAS SQUIRTING OUT THE JETS? Or will that only happen if the car is actually running?

The car hasn't been turned out since June 08. I did replace the fuel.

I know the fuel pump is working because I disconnected the fuel line at the carburetor and it was flowing great.

If I pour gas down the carburetor out of a gas can it will turn over and run for a quick second or two and then shut off...

Yes it should squirt fuel out of the accelerator pump squirters. Which is that piece near the top of the air horn towards the front of the carb in the center of the two barrels.

It sounds like maybe the old fuel has gone bad, gelled up, and it now preventing the needle and seat from opening and allowing the fuel into the bowl and/or the fuel passages in the metering block are clogged.

Ultimately you may need to remove both the front and back bowls and metering block and clean out the old fuel residue. Just adding fresh fuel usually won't cut through the old stuff in bad cases.

Also try tapping lightly on the float adjustment screw with a screwdriver or something and maybe it will break itself free enough to allow fuel in.

If you poured gas in the carb, it should have at least tried to fire. I would check to see if you are getting spark to the plugs. Take a plug out and with boot attached, have someone hold against the block and turn the motor over. It should light the plug when you do that. It may be something electrical as well, like a weak coil.
