'39 Olds Suspension upgrade Springs?

Hello All,

I'm in the process of installing 1958 Pontiac front control arms and a '65-70 Inpala dropped spindle/disc brake kit from CPP. After taking the old components out I'm questioning if I can use the old springs? Take a look at the photos. Are the spring OK to use or are they junk? The second photo shows a set of '72 camaro springs that I may try to use.

Originals look like they are junk,I've never seen a coil spring bend that way.Almost makes me think that someone may have tried to torch lower it.
The Camaro springs look ok.

Old Age?

They are 71 years old and as far as I know my grandfather never had the front end apart. I had a feeling that they were no good but I just didn't know if anyone else had seen springs like this. The problem I have is I can't measure the old springs to get an unsprung hight to see how the Camaro springs compare. Does anyone know what the '39 Olds coupe's spring hight is?

You should be able to closely approximate the free height of the springs by measuring along the outside of the bend radius. The gap between the coils appears to be fairly consistent on the outside of the bend. Do you know the installed height? If you calculate the rates of the two springs, I would bet that the Camaro springs are much higher rate. Just a guess though.
