4 spd on the column

Yes it can be done, but then you still have to have a way to shift into Reverse, as it will be outside the H pattern. Better off to drop a 4 spd shifter into it.

If you want to make people ask a lot of questions, keep your forward gears on the column shift, and run a solenoid, or linear actuator, for reverse. Then mount a 2-speed switch on the shift lever. That'll keep 'em guessing.

I love sick & wrong. The look on people's faces are priceless.

I was thinking of putting a 4-speed in my pickup, and using a junkyard automatic floor shifter for reverse. An old overdrive cable might be adaptable, or maybe even a choke cable. Mark the knob "Ejection Seat".

By the way, engaging reverse and any forward gear (both at the same time) makes a pretty decent parking brake.

Just don't forget to clutch before you start, or you'll blow the nose cone off your starter. Just like having a cylinder hydro-locked.
