Question Is 4-10 gearing overkill for a weekend driving car???

In the summers here lots of guys get together on friday and saterday night and we go street racing out on hiway in the country or in industrial parks. I'm fixing my 1980 Z28 and I'm going to put in a 454. Is 4-10 to much???

a 454 isnt really a high winding motor, unless ofcourse you intsall an ls-7 or L-88 cam. you are mush better off with a 3.73 or 3.52 gearing, winding 3500 rpm on the highway will spoil all the fun of a big block camaro, it will also have a top speed of arround 85mph as the motor will be reving dangerusly high. it will however be very very quick in the 1/8 mile.

stick with 3,73 at the most

I have 4.27s and with out an overdrive, I couldn't drive it on the highway, it winds too high, I agree with Duece...3.73 behind a 454 ought to move just fine
