4.10 gears?

Hello, would I be able to feel a big difference going from 3.73 gears to 4.10 gears?
Truck is 1979 Chevy shortbox 1/2 ton, 3.73 gears, currently 31 inch tires, engine is 350 smallblock, quadrajet carb, edelbrock performer intake, headers, turbo 350 tranny, stock stall converter.
Would i feel more power?
What kind of RPM changes would I get?
And how would it act with 33 inch tires.
THANKS

ALSO, plan on getting Summit 1102 Camshaft in future.

even bigger tires (33") will lower the effective gear ratio even further than the 31"....which reduces total TQ applied to the tires....

for acceleration power (which is TQ) you want the highest gears ratio and smallest tire diameter practical for hwy speeds....

to get an idea of what the 4.10's will do....just mount some smaller diameter tires and wheels off a buddies truck and test drive....

here's (one of many on the web) a tires/gears calc to figure out how small to "simulate" 4.10's using smaller tires..

http://www.csgnetwork.com/gearratcalc.html

my guess is "not alot" changing to 4.10 due to only 340ft/lbs(?) from the motor and the truck weight 3700lbs(?) and the big diameter tires killing the effective ratio.....but....your motor combo "may" really perk up at 4.10 depending on how it is tuned

i have a chevy 4x4 with 33inch tires and 4.10 gears. the motor runs 2500 rpm at 60 mph. about the same it was when i had 3.07 gears with 31 inch tires, and i get the same gas mileage, 12mpg only this time empty or loaded it stays the same. with 33 inch tires and 3.73 gears you will get worse mileage than you would with 4.10s. i have a buddy who has a chevy 4x4 with 35s and put 4.56 gears in and it is equivelant to mine.

The gear spread you're proposing is very close in range. Have you considered leaving the gear alone and changing the trans? A 700R4 would give you a 3:07:1 first gear ratio and I think that would be comparable to having a 4:10-4:56 and your highway cruise would be greatly improved.

I've installed them in 2 of my cars and I am very happy with the results.
It's like driving a different car.

Good luck

the buddy of mine that instaled 4.56s had the 3.73s with a 700r4 and it didnt take long to kill it, all he had after was reverse. and on the highway it was still too high to use overdrive.
