re: 4 to 2 door conversion

Ok I see you are a professional (its in your avatar) so here is what I know:
4 door to 2 door conversions are a hella alota of work to do right. IF, if they are worth being done at all.
Doors are longer on a 2 door so if you want to not have it look funny you get to :
get the long doors,
get 2 door quarter panels,
get 2 door glass, trim and interior.
Move the "B" pillar. I think the roofline at the driprail is
different on that chevy so you get to modify that. Install all of your 2 door parts. spend eternity doing bodywork

That's all there is to it

OR, weld up the 2 rear doors and have a "short door" sedan.
hope this helps, mikey
(you didn't buy this car yet did you?)

re: 4 to 2 door conversion

I'm with Mike, you would need to have a two door parts car to pull it off. At that rate, you might as well part out the four door to build the two door body.

I would do this before I tried to make it a "real" two door.

re: 4 to 2 door conversion

thanks and no powerrodsmike it was just a what if question cause a 4 door is a grandma's car
Plus this will all become easier next year i get told this week (friday) if i am going to go to tech school part time for auto body. The great part is that i dont have to take science because autobody counts as a science.

re: 4 to 2 door conversion

You might be better off converting it into a convertible.

http://www.danchuk.com/12_02_full_doors.html#4119

Plus the 100 or so other parts you need to convert one. When you are done, however, you have a very desirable car.

re: 4 to 2 door conversion

Ya, next year you will be all set.

Foose changed a 56 4 dr to a 2 dr on the first year of Overhaulin. I couldn't believe he did it, nevermind in a week.

Say what you want, but that shows you can do anything you put your mind to. I deal with reality, and my skills and budget dictate what I can do, but don't ever stop dreaming kid.

re: 4 to 2 door conversion

I "converted" this 4-door in the early 90's. I simply welded up the rear doors and then used a set of Honda bucket seats so you could squeeze into the back seat. I wouldn't do this with any sort of pristine car but this one was not in that great of shape so I had a little fun with it.

1st TECH TIP .... 2nd Post on the HAMB about making a 4dr into a 2 door & from looking at it, it's fairly simple if u know anything about body work. if nothing else go to Hamb, be sure to do an intro & then ask some questions....joe
