4.3 cam sensor repeated failure

My buddy Bill is looking at a 2003 Chevy S-10 4x4 with the 4.3 V/6 for possible purchase. Problem is the current owner said that he has had to replace the cam sensor three (3) times.

What would cause a cam sensor to fail repeatedly in a 4.3 V/6 ?

Bill is not going to buy this truck without knowing why this would keep happening. Truck just had a $1500.oo paint job and spray in bed liner, and is for sale for $2200.oo. Good deal if we can get the cam sensor problem straightened out.

Thanks, Allan

Aftermarket electronic parts pretty much suck. Its the luck of the draw with a lot of them. I could give a long list of "new" aftermarket electronic parts that didnt work right out of the box. Its mind boggling.
Get a new one from the general and put it in.

Ask him why he says it keeps "eating" cam sensors. If he says it keeps setting a P1345 trouble code...chances are the sensor isnt the problem.
A worn dizzy gear is usually the culprit and a simple cam/crank sensor correlation/learn is all that is needed once a new gear is installed.
