I'm not too familiar with the different 4.3 v-6's, and was wondering if someone could help me out. A coworker recently bought an '84 Monte carlo at auction to use the interior and offered me the engine. Has 4.3 vortec valve covers on it with the center hold down bolts, a cast iron 4-barrel intake with a quadrajet, and an aftermarket electric fuel pump since there is no fuel pump mounting area on the block. What's the easiest way to tell if this is a vortec engine or another v-6 with vortec valve covers? The engine knocks, but is only $50. I have an low mileage '85 4.3 truck engine with a quadrajet and mechanical fuel pump. Would the vortec heads and intake swap onto it easily?

Not too likely since the vortec engine is fuel injected.
Look at the intake if there are only 8 bolts holding it down it has vortec heads also would have a plastic timing cover too.

the engine is not a "Vortec" but the 4-bbl intake is worth some money, the last one I bid on E-Bay went for over $150.00. Marine and Hot Rod people want the intake, but a rod knocking 4.3 is worth about scrap weight value, the front crank journals will be toast!!
