Cool 4.88 to 4.10

I presently am running 4.88 gears with a sbc 350 and th-350 tranny. How big of a job would it take to change the crown and ring gears to 4.10 with a new shim kit? It is a 12 bolt. Would it be worth doing? I get great launches but suffer top end running the quarter mile and am not interested in dragging strictly the eighth. Any wisdom is appreciated, and thanks. Any preference on manufacturers or will second hand (in good shape be OK?) Axle I hope you read this, and thanks.

Are you toppin' out on the 1320 with those gears? What size tire are you running? Also, how much HP/TQ is your motor pushing.
I asked that last question because you wanted to know what mfgr gear to use. Personally, I would use anything, but I'm cheap, and you get what you pay for. Look on eBay, there's a lot of Richmond 4.11's on there all the time. The ring gear should go in easily along with the shims also.

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I am topping out in the 1/4. (usually around 100 mph. Tires are Goodyear slicks 27.5 x 10 x15 inch rims, that actually are about 30 in. tall. Most reaction times are below .600 and 1/8 ET's are mid 9's at around 80 mph. I don't know the HP or torque as no one around here has a dyno. I sent in a post about dyno max something like a G-tech but no one replyed. It would tell me the HP, and best shift points.

Try out the 4.11's, but you may want something inbetween them and the 4.88's, like a 4.56. I don't know for sure. How much of the track is left when you top out? If not that much, I wouldn't make such a big change in the ratio. As for shift points, (you probably already know this) I shift where I feel the engine stops pulling harder.
