Post 4 banger question

this is not a hotrod question, but I know a lot of you guys turn wrenches for a living, so I hope you can help out.

A friend of mine has a 95 cavalier with a shelled out 2.2. He has a chance to pick up a good 97 (38,000 mi.) 2.2 in a wrecked cavalier, but a couple guys at junk yards say it won't swap. One guy told him it would be too much hassle to change (that guy has a 95 2.2 he wants to sell).

All he needs is the motor. His tranny is fine. He has looked at the 97 and says it looks identical to his. I think the guy at the junkyard is giving him a line. How bout it guys, should he go for the 97? Will it fit?

Have him call another salvage yard and ask them to check the book and se if it will swap. Sometimes the books say they won't if it isn't an exact swap so I wouldn't put alot of wieght in it if they say no.

Thanks racer. That is what he already did. I am of the opinion that it should just about drop right in. Especially if all he needs is the block/head. He should be able to bolt his old stuff right on it, I would think.
