4 post lift
In my garage i dont have enough room for a 4 post lift inside so i was thinking of getting one with the optional casters. My plan was to roll the car outside and then jack it up and then lower it and bring it back in. Its all level concrete so i think it should be safe. What do you all think about this.

Dreadlord,
It sounds good but you will need more than yourself to move the lift with a car on it. I have moved one without a car but the casters are for moving the lift while there is no extra load. If you move the lift inside and then "park" a car on it in the garage at night that works. But when you want to move the lift so you can raise the car you would want to move the car off of the lift then add the casters and then move the empty lift to where you want it to go. I have also found that if you plan on doing any real work on the car you will want to bolt the lift to the floor while doing the real work. Like when you put in a transmission and you are pushing the trany forward and shacking things so the bolts will line up things get a little dicey. Good Luck Scholman |

Dreadlord, or others thinking about doing this,
You will also want to check the thickness of your driveway concrete if you set up outside. I think most of the lift mfrs. say 4" as a minimum and thicker or reinforced concrete even better. If your drive is asphalt rather than 4"-6" concrete pad my guess is you would have some problems supporting the load. One way around this might be to spread the load more uniformly by setting the lift on 2 x 12's. But this is a pretty big "might be". Others on the forum may have much better first hand experience - I don't have a lift so I'm just guessing, and you don't want to guess too much with a ton of metal sitting over your head. Dewey

Thanks for the advice
im thinking of cuting our 4 square sections in my drive and putting some bolt anchors ( where you can tighten a bolt to the concret but it is removable) and filling in concrete around that so when i do the heavy work i can bolt it down and when im done unbolt it. what do you think about this |
