4 speed, borg warner

my friend bought a 81 camero with a 4 speed trans. he was told it's a muncie , but turns out it's a borg warner. i know t4/t5's are top loading, n' this one isn't. does that mean it's a t-10? p.s. the nova runs great! turns out it was an intake leak on cyl. #'s 6 n' 8. no more popping!!

T-10s look very much like Muncies........the reverse lever is in the tailshaft, as is a Muncie. If the reverse lever is in the side case, it's a Saginaw trans.

If you want to check out the numbers, look HERE

If it's cast iron then is a saginaw trans.

If it's aluminum then it's either a muncie or T-10. The fastest way to tell is count the side cover bolts.

7 bolts = Muncie
9 bolts = T-10

Plus all T-10 made after 73 or so have borg warner cast right on the side....
