where can i get a 4-speed trans rebuilt near downey or whittier area near Los Aneles? The 2nd gear kinda grinds and pops out. It's for a '69 Camaro.

Assuming it's Muncie, get the rebuild DVD here, rebuilding a Muncie is a piece of cake and is far simpler than most people think. They are also the place to get parts.

True fact, though, they're not that hard to do. For a Muncie, in addition to common car-fixing tools, you'll need a good lock-ring tool (NOT a snap-ring plier), a feeler gauge around .025" or so (you'll use it kinda like a shoehorn, so exact thickness is not that critical), and a home-made wrench for the input bearing retainer (I used Vise-grips, but I'm crude and impatient). For a Saginaw, you'll only need the lock-ring tool.

Be sure the synchronizer hubs and sleeves go back EXACTLY where they came from and pointing in EXACTLY the same direction as before.

Speed-O-Motive in West Covina used to sell rebuilt 4-speeds, supposedly done by a guy right down the road from them. If you don't feel like diving into it yourself, maybe they'll tell you how to contact him.
