I edited the thread title to provide more information. I took a guess you were talking about a Ford

few options. originally, a Dagenham ( SP ) 4spd was optional. Late 70's also brought the 3+OD toploader, used in Granada's behind the 6 and the SROD 4spd which will also work.. I'd use the SROD or the Granada trans. Some F-150's also used the 3+OD toploader and they should also work

The dagenham is awful...

What about a T5? Yes its not a 4speed, although you could get the T4 4spd version of said T5.

T5s are still easily found, you can run a higher axle ratio and get the economy of the OD 5th if you want it.

My first guess for you, aside from T5 would be the SROD; but make sure you match 1st gear to your axle ratio of choice.

Not sure about your year of car, but the Falcons with v8s up to 65
used a Borg Warner t-10 for Ford applications.

4-speed were not used with the 6cylinders that I am aware of.

My 65 Ranchero has a Borg Warner in it-----kinda half heartedly looking for someone to rebuild the shifter----not a common trans in the Falcons I guess.

Mustangs of the same era used the toploader and they are virtually a Falcon with different fenders.

The shifter comes up in the center of the hump in the mustangs
The shifter comes up just to the left of the hump in the Falcons, so, the two cars do not use the same shifter.

The 6cyls got the Dagenham 4spd as an option. the basic 3.03 3spd was the base transmission. The Dagenham is said to have wooden gears because of it's light duty.. The toploader was used from '65- on in V8's with 4spds. it will work with the 6cyl, and the 3+OD variation was very common in 6cyl Ford Granada's
