4 wire chevy alternator???

I've just installed a fuel injected V-8 (from a 1987 formula Firebird) into my 72' Datsun 240z. There are 3 wires(brn,tan/wht and a larger red) coming out of the modular plug of the new alternator along with the battery lug on the back of it. Help!.....what the heck do I do with the plug wires and where do they go?

Later alternator...

Best get a wiring diagram for the donor car. The later alternators had a separate circuit to power up the fuel pump in the gas tank via the alternator. This was done so that in an accident the motor hopefully stopped and then the fuel pump woudn't spray gas all over the accident!
The pump gets temporarily powered by the key in CRANK position when you start the motor, then the alternator takes over.

Datsun Al,

If you don't have a wiring diagram for your Firebird, you can probably find one here: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...ginRepairGuide

Just punch in the year then follow the screens to your make/model - and once you get the the correct repair guide, hit the "wiring diagram" link. They aren't the most complete diagrams available...but I'm sure it will show the color codes coming off your alt. and where they should be wired up.
