40 Chev door handles

Just bought this 40!Haven't dug into it yet but wonder if someone has any ideas here.Problem is door requires high pressure on inside handle to open!Owner said when he added the billet handles got worse ,they look shorter than original ones.Looked at speedway catalog but they don't give any dimensions for the handles as far as length.Operation is smooth but would seem that there is a very heavy spring pushing the latch in?Maybe could get weaker spring, thing is that is what holds the latch into the frame to keep door shut.Other thought is use of electric door latch, but not familiar with them?NOt big deal except my wife can't open the door, makes me look like gentelman as have to go and open door for her at every stop!!Any ideas??Thanks!

how to fix it

yes just shorten the lever on the back side or extend the lever onthe latch. or do both. thnk of it like a sea saw if the fat kid sits in a bit they both can have fun but when he is too far out he gets too much leveragan it it won;t work.
you could probably drill and rivit a piece of scrap metal to the lever on the latch if you can;t weld.

You may wish to try lubricating things with some white grease before starting any mods..that sometimes will work wonders on those..

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..
